Mother Goose

Mother Goose Co-operative Preschool is a non-profit organization that has been active in the community of southwest Hamilton for over 40 years.

More than a school, our co-op is a community of parents joining together to support and encourage our children as they grow and develop. Mother Goose is a great transitional step for children to help them prepare for full time schooling.

Our Preschool Program

Mother Goose provides an excellent preschool program for children ages 2 1/2 to 4 years. The program is designed and led by our RECE qualified teachers, Jane Walker and  Sarah Willson.  We offer parents & caregivers the wonderful opportunity for hands on involvement in the classroom. While this is not mandatory,  parents & caregivers are encouraged to participate as their schedules allow. We no longer require parents & caregivers to be staff (i.e. "duty parents").

More than a preschool, our co-op is a community of families joining together in a collective effort to support our children as they grow and develop.

Our program provides a loving, relaxed, and stimulating learning environment for children that enhances all levels of development.  This is done through plenty of play opportunities that promote creativity and imagination.

As a co-op, we believe the addition of parents in the classroom can offer a wonderful learning opportunity for both the child and the parent but this is not a requirement.  We believe parents are their children’s first teachers and in order to thrive, they need their relationships to be nurturing and secure.  We set up the environment to be engaging with plenty of opportunities  for positive interactions through PLAY.

Throughout the morning, children are exposed to different kinds of activities designed to help young learners explore and grow.  We use Seesaw to capture and document the learning process of each child.  This is an online tool that helps us capture, share, and organize your child's journey.

In conjunction with How Does Learning Happen: Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years we believe in inquiry, play-based learning and small group instruction.  When children have this kind of support, the benefits include gaining confidence and self-esteem, building relationships, problem-solving, conflict resolution, expanding language, understanding rules and limits, discovering talents and sparking creativity.  In fact, healthy valuable play touches on every area of a child’s development. Children possess a natural curiosity to explore and play acts as a medium to do so.

Our Schedule

Mother Goose runs for 3 hours, from 9:00 am - 12 noon, five days a week. Parents can enroll their child in one of the following programs:

  • a five-day program (referred to as "full-time");
  • a three-day Monday/Wednesday/Friday program;
  • a two-day Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday program.

Our preschool year begins approximately the second week of September and continues until the middle of June, usually one week before the end of the school year for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).

All statutory and public holidays are observed. This includes a two-week Christmas break and a one-week break in March (to coincide with the public school break).
