being part of our co-op
What Does It Mean to Be Part of a Co-op?
Being part of a co-operative preschool means choosing to take an active role in your child’s first educational experience. At Mother Goose, families are more than just participants—they are essential contributors to our vibrant and supportive learning community.
Our members bring a wide range of skills and talents to the preschool. In addition to volunteering in the classroom, members help manage the business side of the school. Families can choose to join the executive board or take on smaller roles and committee positions, depending on their interests.
By enrolling your child at Mother Goose, you’re joining a community where everyone is invested in creating the best possible environment for our children. As a co-operative, we work closely together as a team throughout the year, and we strongly encourage families to commit to the full school year. This allows for consistency, strengthens our community, and ensures we can all grow and learn together.
Parents and caregivers are asked to volunteer in the classroom on a monthly basis. These opportunities are incredibly valuable—not only do they allow parents to observe and support their child’s development in a social setting, but they also offer insight into how educators guide and respond to a range of emotional and developmental moments. Many parents find this experience strengthens their own parenting skills and deepens their connection to their child’s early learning journey.
Volunteer requirements can vary each month, depending on the number of volunteers, and days in the month. Typically it is once a month for Tuesday / Thursday, twice a month for Monday / Wednesday / Friday and , three times a month for full time. These are guidelines only and subject to change.
Should parents be unable to volunteer in the classroom, a monthly fee will be charged based on their child’s cohort. There are a limited number of non-volunteering spots.
Non-volunteering position ($30/month for T/Th; $60/month for M/W/F; $90/month for full time)For more information, please contact the membership director.
Testimonials
See what Mother Goose parents, past and present, have to say about their experiences in our cooperative preschool!
“Mother Goose was a great introduction for our family into the neighbourhood. It allowed us to meet other families, and for my children to meet future school friends. The co-operative part of Mother Goose gave me the best of both worlds in that my children had the opportunity to be independent from me while in a structured and creative environment, and through duty days I got to observe and join in their first school experience. Ms. Jane is a calm and loving teacher who brings out the best in the children. It has been a wonderful and fulfilling part of our family’s life.”
"Ms. Jane is excellent with the children. Her patience and understanding with the kids are outstanding."
"A fun-filled introduction to learning in a supportive and well-structured environment. Ms. Jane is a wonderful resource and it's been a fantastic preparation for kindergarten. I know the skills my son is learning here will let him flourish in the classroom."
“Mother Goose offered my children structure and basic learning skills in a very fun and free environment.”
“An absolutely loving and nurturing environment that emphasizes the importance of a ‘village raising children’. "
