Mother Goose

Mother Goose Co-operative Preschool is a non-profit organization that has been active in the community of southwest Hamilton for over 40 years.

More than a school, our co-op is a community of parents joining together to support and encourage our children as they grow and develop. Mother Goose is a great transitional step for children to help them prepare for full time schooling.

Our Preschool Program

Mother Goose offers a nurturing preschool program for children ages 2½ to 4 years. Our program is thoughtfully designed and led by our RECE-certified teacher, Ms. Jane, alongside our dedicated co-teacher, Ms. Esther. We warmly welcome and encourage hands-on involvement from parents and caregivers, and provide many meaningful opportunities for participation throughout the year.

More than just a preschool, our co-op is a community of families working together to support our children as they grow, learn, and thrive.

Our program offers a warm, relaxed, and engaging environment that nurtures all areas of child development. Through rich play-based experiences, we encourage creativity, curiosity, and imagination. We value our play-responsive approach and believe deeply in the power of meaningful play.

As a cooperative, we recognize the important role parents play in their children's early learning. By welcoming parents into the classroom, we create opportunities for connection, shared learning, and support. We believe parents are a child’s first and most important teachers, and that secure, nurturing relationships are the foundation for healthy development. Our environment is thoughtfully designed to encourage positive interactions through play.

Throughout the morning, children engage in a variety of hands-on activities that foster exploration and growth. We use Seesaw, a secure online platform, to document and share your child's learning journey, helping to keep you connected and involved in their experiences.

In conjunction with How Does Learning Happen: Ontario's Pedagogy for the Early Years , we embrace inquiry-based, play-based learning and small group instruction as key elements of our program. When children are supported in this way, they develop confidence and self-esteem, form meaningful relationships, strengthen problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, expand their language, learn about boundaries, discover their unique talents, and ignite their creativity.

Mother Goose runs for 3 hours, from 9:00 am - 12 noon, five days a week. Parents can enroll their child in one of the following programs:

  • a five-day program (referred to as "full-time");

  • a three-day Monday/Wednesday/Friday program;

  • a two-day Tuesday/Thursday

Our preschool year begins approximately the second week of September and continues until the middle of June, usually one week before the end of the school year for the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB).

All statutory and public holidays are observed. This includes a two-week Winter /December break and a one-week break in March (to coincide with the public school break).
